Two young men were yesterday sentenced to a total of 40 years in hard
labour by an Accra Circuit Court for robbery. The convicted persons are
Atta Kofi Kyei aka Fresh Boy and Amid Yakubu, barber.

The court presided over by Francis Obiri in separate judgements found
the accused persons guilty of their offences and handed each of them a
20-year jail term.
In the case of Fresh Boy, prosecution said he
had on January 5 this year at Atomic Junction robbed one Rosina Asare of
her handbag containing one Nokia mobile phone, one Blackberry Q10
mobile phone valued at GH¢ 1,200, a cash amount of GH¢200 and other
personal items.
According to the prosecutor, DSP Patrick Morkeh,
the complainant, who is resident at Agbogba in Accra, at 10pm at the
aforementioned date alighted at first bus stop close to PRESEC and
Atomic Junction to cross to the other side of the road to board another
vehicle to Kwabenya. He added that as soon as she alighted the convict
emerged from the bush and attacked the complainant, threatening to cause
physical harm to her.
The police officer said Fresh Boy collected the aforementioned items and bolted into the nearby bush.
DSP
Morkeh stated that Rosina reported the case to the police who were on
night snap check duty at the scene of the incident and saw the convict
and another accomplice emerging from the bush.
He said Fresh Boy and his accomplice, upon seeing the police officers, took to their heels but were arrested upon a tipoff.
The
police officer said Fresh Boy in his caution statement admitted the
offence and led the police to retrieve Rosina’s handbag without its
contents.
Amid Yakubu
It is the case of prosecution that the
accused and one Kojo, currently at large, on December 26 last year at
Omanjor, a suburb of Accra, robbed one Budu Yaw Joseph, a cabbie, of his
wallet containing his driver’s license, voter’s ID card, a G-seven
mobile phone valued at GH¢300 and a cash sum of GH¢180.
At his first appearance, the convict admitted the offence and was accordingly sentenced on his own plea.
He was handed 15 and 20 years for conspiracy and robbery respectively.
The
prosecutor said at 10:30am while Budu was working with his vehicle,
Amid boarded the vehicle from Sowutuom Mambo to Omanjor, adding that on
reaching a section of the road at Omanjor, Amid, who was sitting in the
front passenger seat, pulled a knife on Budu.
The prosecution indicated that Budu, sensing danger, quickly obliged and gave Amid the aforementioned items.
The
prosecution said after the act the duo escaped, indicating that on
January 2 this year Budu went to a drinking spot within the vicinity and
spotted his mobile phone with a salesgirl called Debora Asiedu and made
a report to the police, leading to the arrest of Debora.
In her caution statement she (Debora) mentioned Amid as the source and he was subsequently arrested.
The prosecutor disclosed that a search conducted in his (Amid’s) room revealed Budu’s mobile phone together with his wallet.
